City Of Socorro Statistics
The City of Socorro, Texas was originally created by a Special Act of the Texas Legislature on April 26, 1871. In 1921 the City of Socorro as an entity went dormant. While the community continued to flourish and grow the governing body dissolved and became inactive. In 1986, in response to annexation plans by the City of El Paso, the citizens of Socorro resurrected their governing body and once again became a political subdivision of the state. In 2001 the Citizens of Socorro adopted a new municipal charter giving the city home rule authority and a City Manager form of local government.
Today the City of Socorro is a flourishing community with an estimated population of over 30,000. Socorro's location in the growth path of eastern El Paso County and an abundance of land for development insures that the city will continue to grow for many years to come.
